We have been farming a 770ha certified organic sheep and beef farm since 1 July 2004. We are located close to Gore in Southland.
In the late 1990's as agriculture was intensifying our animal health problems increased and our profits decreased. This lead us to question the way we were farming. About this time my sister and mother got cancer. They both survived through a combination of conventional and alternative treatments. This resulted in us again questioning our life style and farming methods.
This lead us to organic farming which involved lots of research and communication with other organic farmers. It was a huge challenge but the satisfaction we get from producing chemical free meat is enormous.
